Call of duty sound files missing bad format

This is literally what my main menu screen looks like right now. Last night I uninstalled the games AND steam and redownloaded and reinstalled everything and it still doesn't work. I get this error too, the first batch of discs was defective. Mine worked a few times and then it wouldent load the sound files. It also happend to my freinds, but those who bought the game of the year edition dont have this problem.

I think I had a similar problem a while ago, have you tried reinstalling checking the disk for scratches and cleaning it or trying a different drive? Also check that you have all patches applied.
